Our commitments
Our mission can be summed up in a few words: nourishing the future, sustainably. In concrete terms, this means offering young children food that protects their health while caring for the planet and the people who sustain it. At materna, responsibility guides every one of our choices and gives meaning to each of our actions.
A Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy built around 4 pillars
The environment
We take action to reduce our environmental footprint: optimizing industrial processes to lower water and energy consumption, reducing waste, regularly measuring our carbon footprint, and implementing decarbonization initiatives.
Our products
We design packaging and recipes that are carefully developed not only for babies’ health but also for the climate. This includes measuring the carbon footprint of our products, continuously improving ingredients and packaging, and working closely with our partners and clients to move together toward more sustainable practices.
The human dimension
We place our employees at the heart of our approach: safety, health, skills development, and quality of life at work are daily priorities.
Sustainable procurement
We strengthen our relationships with suppliers by deploying a responsible sourcing policy to reduce the impact of our raw materials and by supporting agricultural sectors committed to a low-carbon transition.
An ambitious decarbonization pathway
Aligned with the French National Low-Carbon Strategy, materna aims to significantly reduce its emissions, targeting a 20% reduction in carbon intensity between 2022 and 2030. Our roadmap is built around 3 complementary steps :
Reducing emissions
at the source
Energy and logistics transition
Offsetting initiatives to support low-carbon agriculture
Concrete actions
Reducing energy consumption
- Optimization of washing cycles to reduce water and energy use (2024–2025)
- Recovery of energy lost during sterilization to improve equipment energy efficiency (since 2026)
Developing more efficient packaging
- Launch of pasteurized recyclable mono-material pouches (2024)
- Study of a cap using 15% less plastic (2026)
- Testing of sterilized and recyclable pouches (2026)
Reducing product carbon footprint
- Objective: –20% emissions on our savory meals within 5 years
- Creation of an internal tool based on Agribalyse to measure the carbon impact of each recipe from the design stage (focused on purchased raw materials)
- A three-year client support program: development of more sustainable recipes with a –20% emissions target across the range within 3 years
- Reduction of the emission factor linked to ready-to-use milk: target of –20% between 2022 and 2040 through low-carbon initiatives implemented by partner farms and optimization of milk collection logistics
